Carbon PEEK plates Xellentic® CF PEEK
For particularly demanding applications, Haufler Composites produces carbon fibre/PEEK plates using a press method. PEEK is a high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic.
Medical technology
Xellentic® CF PEEK semi-finished products are manufactured to strict quality standards and meet the requirements of medical technology. Our carbon fibre/PEEK materials are biocompatible and can be steam sterilised.
Their high strength and stiffness combined with excellent dimensional stability make them ideally suited for use in medical devices. Our CF/PEEK semi-finished products have been used for more than 15 years, among other things for radiolucent targeting arms.
Industry
Xellentic® CF PEEK combines the high strength, stiffness and low thermal expansion of carbon fibre with the chemical and thermal resistance of PEEK.
Haufler Composites produces carbon/PEEK plates from fabric with a fibre volume content of 50 % and a fibre orientation of 0°/90°, or with a multiaxial fibre orientation of 0°/90°/+-45°.
Carbon/PEEK plates from tape are produced with fibre orientation in any direction – unidirectional, for example – and a fibre volume content of about 60 %.
In contrast to carbon PEEK compounds, in which the thermoplastic is mixed with short carbon fibres, the use of continious carbon fibres achieves mechanical characteristics that are many times higher.
Thanks to its high wear resistance and chemical resistance, Xellentic® CF PEEK is used as a bearing material in corrosive environments, in piston rings and in heavily loaded back-up rings and slide rails.
Depending on the geometry and application, the components are machined from semi-finished plates or pressed directly as moulded parts.
Valves, bearings and slide rings in corrosive environments in particular achieve a long service life and low maintenance costs when made from Xellentic® CF PEEK.
Our Xellentic® CF PEEK plates are used for components exposed to extreme conditions and are characterised by:
- steam sterilisability
- very good chemical resistance
- excellent wear resistance
- low coefficient of friction
- high abrasion resistance
- no volatile constituents
